The fall colors were shaping up nicely along the lane up to the cabin. Then this long nor’easter moved in, and it already feels as though the storm has been hanging around here forever. And it will be another two days before it probably clears out. The weather feels as raw as an open wound. About the only thing that would be less pleasant, I think, is an ice storm.
It’s dark and cold and rainy and windy. I could barely entice the dogs to leave the cabin this morning. The cats hadn’t left the bed by the time I headed for work, not even when I put food in their dishes. It’s 35 degrees, though I haven’t seen a single snowflake, which is a bit surprising. I’ve often seen it snow hard at 35 degrees. I guess it’s too wet for snow here, though just a bit further north there’s plenty of it.
Not even the feeder birds were making an appearance this morning. Everyone and everything is still hunkered down. I hope some good fall color will be left when the storm finally clears at the end of the weekend, but I’m not counting on it.

Gray and damp and cold here today, too, though no rain or wind. Another hour and it will start getting dark, though it doesn't seem like it's really been full daylight yet. I do have birds at the feeder and squirrels on the ground, hopping about through the grass.
I don't know what we'll have of fall color once this weekend passes. I was out this morning for a while, and a lot of the color has barely begun; in other places, trees are almost stripped bare.
I think the critters have it right—hunker down and give it time.

I feel like we skipped to winter and I'm ready for a restart. I want my fall back. It is the kind of cold that goes straight to the bone isn't it. Hopefully on Sunday we can get out into some sunshine and wander around a little. I trust by now you have thrown another dog on the bed. :-)
Griz: I still have some fall color, though this morning it is greener again than it's been for the past week. A lot of leaves did come down. unfortunately.

Oh, I sure hope we haven't skipped directly to winter. As much as I like winter, I prefer it after I've had fall for longer than a few days.
