Colors of fall

The sunlight this morning was especially nice, making even dry and withered plants look more golden than brownish.  In the bright light of midday, the mullein is more the color of a cigar.  The goldenrod still looks golden, though.  About the only flowers left are the tiny fleabanes that are nearly lost in the yellowing grasses.

This isn’t a true fall color change. It’s more a drying of the forest from lack of rain. Perhaps that lack is forcing the leaves to change sooner than the temperature and hours of daylight would indicate.  I just hope some leaves are left to produce the prettier fall colors.

We've had a spot of rain here this week. Not lots, but enough to freshen everything up. BTW- loved the pic of your girls asking for their supper on the last post!

I got a report today that the foliage in north-central Pennsylvania is absolutely perfect right now, Carolyn. Here further east, it's more like you described it--withering and drying. We had a 1/2-hour deluge late Sunday afternoon though! Hope you got some, too.

I think we are going to have good color here. We're on our current 3rd day of rain. Not sure what that will do, but things were brightening up nicely.

Countryside: Finally had rain here yesterday, and enough wind to bring down perhaps half of the leaves. Now the forest is green again, even though the canopy is no longer quite so dense

Pablo: So do I!

Scott: I had a 5 minute rain on Saturday evening and then an all day rain yesterday. Now, the withered leaves are down and the forest is almost green again. I still can't see the mountain to my west, but I can see sky over the cabin again!

Sharkbytes: At least somewhere is getting nice color. If only it hadn't been so dry here this fall...
