This is definitely not my day. It started when the trash receptacles were gone. So here I am at 6 a.m. left with a week’s worth of garbage and no place to put them on the hottest day in two months.
The day continued when I was leaving the cabin this morning and discovered a nice 4-point buck just a few feet away. And the auto focus on my camera focused on the vegetation in from of the buck instead of on the deer itself. At this point the deer was staring nicely at me and that would have made a great shot. But as you can see by this morning’s photo, the standing and looking part didn’t last, and the focusing part was never fully resolved either.
And then I drove away from the cabin, located a nice American Kestrel atop a light pole in clear view, but by the time I stopped the car, rolled down the window and picked up my camera, Mrs. Nice Kestrel flew away.
And then I managed to find a small flock of Cedar Waxwings, but the light was so poor and the birds were hiding atop the leaves on the trees that I didn’t get a usable shot of them either.
Are you starting to see the trend here?
And now I find that my work computer is giving up the ghost, but that I won’t be getting a replacement right away. I don't know what "not right away" means, but that doesn't sound very good either, does it?
Maybe I should just go home and take a nap. That seems as though it should be safe enough.

Comment 2: One the local portion of the public radio news program this morning (Wednesday, September 11) in Philadelphia, they did a feature on global warming and its implications for the ski industry in Pennsylvania. (They said that by the end of the century, skiing will be history in Pennsylvania.) However, the reason I'm telling you this is that they included a long interview with a representative of Roundtop Mountain Resort (formerly Ski Roundtop). Roundtop's representative explained that they've diversified considerably from skiing, and now offer year-round activities including ropes courses, paintball courses, and a zipline. I know that you know all this, but I just thought the connection was interesting; the radio producers didn't go to the Poconos to do their interview--they were right in your backyard!

Scott: I have no idea where the trash receptacles are. They are still missing.
Roundtop does have a lot of year-round activities now, though I'm not sure any of them will bring in more money than skiing does now. They are trying a lot of things, though.
I won't be around by the end of the century. Even so I wonder if I shouldn't move further north. I keep hoping the warming thing won't get much worse until after I'm gone. I still believe that "winter is coming."
