Snowy night

Snow is in short supply here this winter. Oh, I see an inch or two or three but every time a half-decent storm appears, it ends up as ice or rain. The snows I have had, such as they are, have been pretty little things. The snow sticks to every little twig and blade of grass or winter-deadened vine, so the mountain looks sugar-coated. Of course, the slightest breeze dislodges the powdery stuff, but until that happens it’s really pretty.

I had one of those pretty little snows the other night and tried to get a photo before a breeze knocked it all off the trees. The resulting photo doesn’t look quite how it looked that night at the cabin--all white and fresh and still--but the result I did get is still okay.

This delicate little snow didn't survive much past the next morning's sunrise. The temperature never warmed above freezing but the sun is brighter and stronger now and even a cold sun is strong enough to melt snow. Winter is already more than half over and the sun grows stronger ever day.

Supposed to snow here on Thursday, and for several days thereafter. Maybe some of the same front will end up moving eastward to your woods and mountain. I hope so—I want to keep some, but I'm willing to share.

TGBSISH: Hmm, I thought the snow was coming on Wednesday, though I'll be happy as long as it's snow and not, well, you know, the Other Stuff.

Huh! I rechecked the weather forecast. You are right—snow here Wednesday night (though rain all day) and then snow for the rest of the week.

The trick will be, are they right? and how much? Keep your mittens crossed…

If the forecast is right, that will be the first time this winter. It's pretty bad when they predict snow when it's already falling as ice.

My snow part didn't start until after lunch. I think got about of snow. It was nice to just simple watch it now and then as I type up some poems.

As for Spring, it's 32 days away.
