Warning! Snow ahead!

The next time I say life is normal, please slap me.

I love snow, I truly do. But after spending last weekend in New Hampshire and now facing a forecast of 6-12 inches of snow the weekend before Christmas, I am so far behind in preparing for the upcoming holiday that the only way I could catch up is if we move Christmas back a week—or maybe two.

I was afraid this would happen. Somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind, I looked at that storm on the radar down along the Gulf of Mexico and didn’t believe it when the forecasters said my area was only going to get a couple inches of snow. Last night the last thing I did before I turned off the light was to listen to the forecast. They were still saying 2-4 inches of snow, with my county’s prediction pegged at 2.5 inches. So, what happened? Did I sleep for days?

No, I didn’t. A mere seven hours later the forecast is now for 6-12 inches of actual snow, followed by wind, with 2-3 feet of wind-driven snow not out of the question. Yikes!

This morning, I can see the snow clouds moving in across the sunrise. Those pretty rose and mauve colors don't light up the sky every morning. The prettier the sunrise, the worse the weather to follow. Tonight, I’m going to be running until midnight—stocking up on bird seed, more chicken food, food for the holiday. Then I’m going to ready my snowshoes and hunker down. Snow's ahead!

Oh my gosh! Now I'm afraid to look at our forecast!

When I was over stressed with too long of a list my Mom always used to say
"You can only do what you can do"
Take care!

I'm way behind, too…but more from dealing with this lingering bug than the effect of snow. In fact, we haven't had more than a flurry hereabouts, not nearly enough to whiten the ground even for a moment. The weather gurus are predicting snow here over the night and off and on for the next three days—but not much, maybe an inch or two. Still barely what I'd call snow.

Lynne's advice is the best…do what you can do, the things most necessary or desirable. Don't get so stressed by what you can't manage that you forget to enjoy the holiday or the world beyond your cabin door.

And send about half that snow our way if you'd like.

Lynne: Hopefully, I'll be able to get everything done--even if I'm not done until midnight!

Hmm, I'm suppose to get only 2-4 inches out of this storm. Watch me get a foot instead. Also looks like that Saturday will be another short day for me.

Maybe a nice big snowstorm will give you a good excuse to simplify your Christmas plans. Not always a bad thing! Also, just tell everyone you're celebrating Christmas the way many people around the world do, on January 6. That'd give you your extra 2 weeks.

We managed to dodge that snow. This time. They tell us that another storm is headed our way and we might have a white Xmas. A VERY white Xmas.

Well, How much have you gotten done today. I have spent the entire day just looking out the door and thowing mealworms out for the bird. Last check I was up to 18 inches, or a foot and half which sounds much more impressive. I can't wait to see your next blog and how the snow is affecting you. We can celebrate Christmas in July. Now it is snowtime! Great fun!

Cathy: i ended up with a foot of snow, though it's hard to be more exact. It blew around a lot so some places are 3ft deep and some are just a few inches. A foot of snow is my best guess.

Woodwalker: My Christmas is pretty basic as it is. My errands before the storm him were all animal-related--dog and cat food at the pet store, extra chicken food in case I didn't have enough. After I did all that I got food for me!

Pablo: I'm supposed to get something-=that dreaded "wintry mix" on either Christmas Eve or Christmas day. I hope that's one I don't get.

Squirrel: I wasn't in the middle of the storm, so I only got a foot (roughly). It did blow around a lot, so it's tough to figure how much there really was.
