Jungle walk

Rain, thunderstorms, heat and humidity hold Roundtop in its grasp this week. Rain is a daily event, though it certainly isn’t needed anymore. Storms pass somewhere nearby daily. I hear thunder every night but haven’t yet gotten a storm directly overhead.

The weather has cramped my outdoor activities a bit. I don’t want to be in the middle of a project or on a long walk only to find myself in the middle of a thunderstorm with no escape to shelter quickly available. So I end up not getting as much done as I’d like or walking as far as usual.

Inside, I’ve been forced to pull the fan out of storage. I haven’t yet turned it on, though I expect I’ll have to do that this evening. The forest is like a jungle, and sticky mud makes walking in many areas less than enjoyable.

I’m starting to think we might make rain forest status here this year, though as thick as the forest looks right now, I’m not sure that would make any real difference. Unless a few toucans or monkeys show up.

We still aren't sweltering—thank goodness! (I just knocked on my wooden desktop!) But it is certainly lush hereabouts, though I don't think we've had so many recent rains as you. However, showers are predicted for the rest of the week.

This year, I think, you're going to have to adopt the Pacific Northwest mindset and count on working and walking in the rain.

I'm going to be really hacked if those toucans and monkeys show up in your area and not here, though…or maybe not. The monkeys could prove a hassle around the cabin.

it's soupy here tonight, T-storms miss us so far. I have my floor fan pointing at me. i do have a ceiling fan but really hot days, it's pretty much useless because I get too nervous when it's on high.

Autumn is only 55 days away!!

Come to the Ozarks. We don't have mud. We have rocks.

pablo: i have rocks AND mud--makes for slippy walking.

Cathy: That's just what I need! A countdown to fall! I'm ready, that's for sure. One week of hot, soupy weather and that's too much summer for me.
