Inside, outside

Inside, looking out.
Inside, a cabin in the woods is still inside.
A view of the forest without is not the same as being in the forest.
All windows open, tantalized by birdsong.
Earthy aromas sneak inside like winter mice.
But even with all that, it is still 'inside.'
The distance four thin walls creates is vast.

I like what you wrote about inside and outside. And your cat on the quilt and little bird on the bookshelf. Although I walk in the forest on most days in the spring, summer and fall, I spend most of my time looking out a wall of windows, especially in the winter.

My home is a cabin-sized condominium. I have neighbors above and below, north and south. The only view is to the east. It's like living in a cave on cliff. There is one small bedroom window to the west, but it's not easy to see out of it. I usually sleep well there because it stays dark!

Now I have a mental image of your cabin with its four walls and four views.

Lynne and am: Thanks!

Sometimes I take the woods too much for granted. For me, it's always there, so sometimes I forget that just looking at it is not the same as getting out and being in it.
