Mom's dogwood

Rain clears from the distant peaks
Dew glistens frostily.
Moonlight glazes the front of
My ivied hut among the pines.
How can I tell you how I am,
Right now?
A swollen brook gushes in the valley
Darkened by clouds.
- Daito (1282-1334)

This 800 year old poem seems appropriate to me today. I found it on the daily zen site for May 8.
The photo was taken at my parents' farm. Mom's pink dogwood tree is especially lush this year.

  1. What a lovely dogwood! I wish I had one like it blooming right outside my workroom window.

That looks like a huge evergreen (can't recognize the species) to the right in your photo. A nice looking place.

  2. Griz: the evergreen is spruce. There are three of them right there.
